Suit of wands in the Rider Waite Smith tarot
The series of Wands in the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot symbolises energy, passion, creativity and action. Associated with the element Fire and rules over the zodiac signs Leo, Sagittarius & Aries, it represents vital momentum, ambition and the will to bring ideas to fruition. This suite often speaks of projects, initiatives and work, but also of challenges to be met in order to move forward with determination.
Made up of 14 cards – from the Ace of Wands to the King of Wands – each card expresses a stage or aspect of the creative and professional journey. The Ace of Wands marks the beginning of a new creative cycle, full of enthusiasm. The cards in between tell the story of a path made up of impetus, progress, doubts or overload, such as the Seven of Wands (defending one’s position) or the Ten of Wands (burden). The figures embody strong, charismatic and inspirational personalities, and attitudes to adopt when faced with a situation: the King of Wands, for example, represents a visionary leader, capable of motivating and guiding.
In a draw, the cards in the suite de Bâtons invite you to take action, to follow your instincts, or to assert your convictions. They can also signal a need to re-evaluate one’s priorities so as not to burn out.
